Ghana’s national team coach, Otto Addo, revealed the emotional toll he experienced following the Black Stars’ 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The defeat, which took place at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi, Libya, on Tuesday, dealt a significant blow to Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the tournament.
The loss extended Ghana’s winless streak to four games, leaving them third in Group F with just two points. Reflecting on the difficult period, Addo said, “To be honest, the last two days after the Sudan match, I felt dead.”
However, in an interview with GFA media, Addo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from family and friends, which helped him regain focus. “I got a lot of positive feedback and a lot of support from family, friends, and this is the time I need them. It brought me back on track, and it’s very important for us to look ahead and try to win the last games.”
The Black Stars are set to face Angola and Niger in their final two qualifying matches, where they must secure maximum points to keep their slim hopes of qualification alive. Angola has already secured a spot in the tournament with 12 points, while Sudan, currently in second place, need only a draw from their remaining two fixtures to book their ticket to the 2025 AFCON.
